Erasmo Ramirez TB RP
Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Picks up unconventional save
4m agoRamirez recorded the final out in Thursday's win over Boston to earn the save.
Jason Adam began the ninth inning and was in line to earn the save, but he was forced to leave the game after the Rays exceeded the limit for mound visits. Ramirez then entered the contest to record the final out with runners on first and third. He hasn't worked many high-leverage situations this season and isn't likely to see many moving forward given the depth of Tampa Bay's bullpen.
-
Bryson Stott PHI 2B
Phillies' Bryson Stott: Impactful off bench
5m agoStott went 1-for-2 with a walk, two RBI and a run during Thursday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Mets.
Stott initially was left out of the lineup against southpaw Jose Quintana -- a normal occurrence for the lefty-hitting second baseman -- but entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh. He walked in his first plate appearance and came around to score on a Kyle Schwarber double, drove in the game-tying run on an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, and brought the Phillies to within one in the 11th after a fielder's choice plated Nick Castellanos. In his last eight games, Stott is batting .478 with 11 RBI and 10 runs scored.
-
Pete Alonso NYM 1B
Mets' Pete Alonso: Swats solo homer
14m agoAlonso went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run during Thursday's 6-5 win over the Phillies.
Alonso tagged Taijuan Walker (foot) for a solo shot in the first inning, putting the first baseman in double figures for homers this season. He's now tied for the fourth most home runs in the NL and owns a .772 OPS with 27 runs through 164 at-bats.
-
Taijuan Walker PHI SP
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: No broken bones
15m agoX-rays came back negative on Walker's left foot after he was forced to exit Thursday's start against the Mets in the fourth inning, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Walker was hit by a line drive in the fourth inning and limped off the mound. The initial diagnosis was a bruise, and the negative X-rays are also a good sign. Even so, the Phillies are unsure if he will be able to take his next turn through the rotation.
-
Jose Alvarado PHI RP
Phillies' Jose Alvarado: Takes extra-innings loss
18m agoAlvarado (1-2) took the loss during Thursday's 11-inning 6-5 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and no walks across one inning. He struck out two.
Alvarado didn't take the mound until the 11th frame, when the score was knotted up at four, and ended up with the loss. He allowed a single to JD Martinez to open up the inning -- scoring designated runner Francisco Lindor -- before Harrison Bader doubled to put two runners aboard. Alvarado managed to retire the next three batters he faced; however, Martinez crossed home plate on a wild pitch to put the Mets up two. Through 18.2 innings, Alvarado owns a 3.86 ERA and is 8-for-8 in save chances.
-
Edwin Diaz NYM RP
Mets' Edwin Diaz: Another blown save
34m agoDiaz blew the save Thursday against Philadelphia, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts over one inning.
Diaz inherited a one-run lead for the bottom of the ninth but didn't convert his sixth save of 2024. Instead, Diaz walked Brandon Marsh and then allowed Marsh to reach second on a wild pitch before Bryson Stott hit an RBI single to send the game into extras. Diaz has blown three of his last four save chances and has allowed six runs over his last eight innings.
-
Will Smith LAD C
Dodgers' Will Smith: Gets breather Thursday
5h agoSmith isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Thursday's game versus Cincinnati.
After going 5-for-12 with three RBI and two runs scored during the Dodgers' last series with the Giants, Smith will get a day off during Thursday's series opener. Austin Barnes will take his place behind the dish and bat ninth.
-
Shea Langeliers OAK C
Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Taking seat Thursday
7h agoLangeliers is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Houston.
It's a routine day off for Langeliers after he started each of the last four days behind the plate. Kyle McCann will do the catching for Joey Estes on Thursday.
-
Tomas Nido NYM C
Mets' Tomas Nido: Not starting Thursday
8h agoNido isn't in the Mets' lineup Thursday versus Philadelphia.
Nido will catch a breather after going 2-for-4 with an RBI during Wednesday's loss. Omar Narvaez will fill in at catcher while batting ninth.
-
Connor Wong BOS C
Red Sox's Connor Wong: Idle Thursday
8h agoWong isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for Thursday's game against Tampa Bay, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Wong will take a seat for Thursday's series finale after going 3-for-11 with an RBI through the first three games against the Rays. Reese McGuire will start instead behind the plate and bat seventh.
-
Sean Murphy ATL C
Braves' Sean Murphy: Closing in on rehab stint
12h agoMurphy (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment next week, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
The catcher has been out since Opening Day after suffering an oblique strain, and Atlanta has taken things slowly with him so far. Murphy now appears to be in the final stages of his recovery, but given the amount of time he's missed, his rehab assignment could last more than just a few days. Travis d'Arnaud will continue handling catching duties until Murphy returns, backed up by Chadwick Tromp.
-
Ryan Jeffers MIN C
Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Resting Thursday
13h agoJeffers is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.
Jeffers will get some maintenance in Thursday's day game after he caught all nine innings of the Twins' 4-0 loss Wednesday night. Christian Vazquez will check in for Jeffers behind the dish.
-
Pete Alonso NYM 1B
Mets' Pete Alonso: Swats solo homer
14m agoAlonso went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run during Thursday's 6-5 win over the Phillies.
Alonso tagged Taijuan Walker (foot) for a solo shot in the first inning, putting the first baseman in double figures for homers this season. He's now tied for the fourth most home runs in the NL and owns a .772 OPS with 27 runs through 164 at-bats.
-
Paul Goldschmidt STL 1B
Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Homers in Wednesday's loss
10h agoGoldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Angels.
Goldschmidt is on a five-game hitting streak, having gone 7-for-23 (.304) with two homers and four RBI in that span. The burst of offense has doubled his homer total for the year to four, and he's up to 15 RBI, 20 runs scored, two stolen bases and three doubles while slashing .206/.291/.300 across 41 contests. Goldschmidt sat out a game just prior to his current streak, so it appears the mental reset is paying off in the short term, though his counting stats are unlikely to improve much if the team around him doesn't collectively start hitting better.
-
Ty France SEA 1B
Mariners' Ty France: Another homer in Wednesday's win
11h agoFrance went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a win over the Royals on Wednesday.
France's 414-foot shot to left center in the fourth inning extended the Mariners' lead to 2-0 and served as his second round-tripper in the last three games. France has also hit safely in all three of those contests, but both his .243 average and .295 on-base percentage are at their lowest points since his rookie campaign in 2019.
-
Joey Meneses WAS 1B
Nationals' Joey Meneses: Nabs second steal
12h agoMeneses went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox.
The Nationals have been running wild in 2024 and are tied with the Reds for the major-league lead at 74 steals, and even Meneses is getting in on the action. The 32-year-old first baseman came into the season with only one stolen base in 210 MLB games, but he's now 2-for-2 in steal attempts through 38 contests this year. The rest of his profile has been a disappointment though, and he's slashing only .226/.297/.274 through 165 plate appearances with one homer, seven runs and 21 RBI.
-
Bryce Harper PHI 1B
Phillies' Bryce Harper: Powers home three runs in win
23h agoHarper went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two total runs and three total RBI in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Mets.
Harper missed Tuesday's contest against New York due to a migraine, but he didn't show any lingering effects of the ailment upon his return to the lineup. The first baseman belted a solo homer to left field in his first at-bat, then plated a pair of runs with a double in the fifth inning. Harper had been in a mini slump coming into the game with a .190 average and just one RBI over his previous five contests, but he appears to be back on track. He's tied for eighth in the majors with 10 homers and ranks 10th with 32 RBI on the campaign.
-
Christian Walker ARI 1B
Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Snaps homer drought
1d agoWalker went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Reds.
Walker led off the second inning with his eighth homer of the season and first in 13 games. He entered the contest on a 1-for-16 run and is batting .217 for the month. The recent slump dropped his average to .264, but Walker still leads the team with 28 RBI.
-
Bryson Stott PHI 2B
-
Gleyber Torres NYY 2B
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Pushes further away from slump
1h agoTorres went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored during Thursday's 5-0 win over the Twins.
After enduring a 5-for-36 (.138) slump from Apr. 29 to May 11, Torres has gone 6-for-16 (.375) and has scored four runs during his last four games. On Thursday, he clubbed a pair of doubles off Joe Ryan to bring his season total to six through 187 plate appearances.
-
Jonathan India CIN 2B
Reds' Jonathan India: Sitting again Thursday
5h agoIndia (migraine) isn't in the Reds' lineup for Thurdsay's game against the Dodgers.
A migraine caused India to be a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup, and it appears to be bothering him enough to hold him out again Thursday. Santiago Espinal will get the nod at second base instead and bat eighth.
-
Jared Triolo PIT 2B
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Out of lineup Thursday
6h agoTriolo isn't in the Pirates' lineup Thursday versus the Cubs.
Triolo will begin the day on the bench amid his recent struggles. After going 0-for-3 on Wednesday, he has just two hits in his last 39 plate appearances. The third baseman has been starting in the absence of Ke'Bryan Hayes, but Nick Gonzales will slide over from second to third Thursday. Alika Williams joins the lineup at second and will bat ninth.
-
Nico Hoerner CHC 2B
Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Remains out Thursday
6h agoHoerner (hamstring) isn't in the Cubs' lineup for Thursday's game against the Pirates.
Hoerner was scratched from the lineup before Tuesday's game versus Atlanta due to tightness in his left hamstring, and it will now keep him from playing for the third game in a row. Nick Madrigal will cover second base Thursday while Miles Mastrobuoni starts at shortstop.
-
Bryson Stott PHI 2B
Phillies' Bryson Stott: Sitting against lefty
8h agoStott isn't in the Phillies' lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.
The lefty-hitting Stott will take a seat as southpaw Jose Quintana prepares to start on the mound for New York. Whit Merrifield will fill the void at second base and bat seventh.
-
Coby Mayo BAL 3B
Orioles' Coby Mayo: Suffers injury after collision
45m agoMayo exited Thursday's game with Triple-A Norfolk after colliding with the third third base dugout, Rich Dubroff of Baltimorebaseball.com reports.
There aren't many details available about the incident, but Mayo's removal was termed as a precaution. Assuming he can make a quick return, Mayo could be nearing a promotion to the majors as he's posted an impressive .282/.353/.594 line across 190 plate appearances with Norfolk.
-
Max Muncy LAD 3B
Dodgers' Max Muncy: Idle against lefty
5h agoMuncy isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds.
With left-hander Brent Suter set to open Thursday's game for the Reds, Muncy will retreat to the bench. While he sits, Enrique Hernandez will man the hot corner and bat fifth.
-
Niko Goodrum LAA 3B
Angels' Niko Goodrum: Sent to Triple-A
10h agoThe Angels optioned Goodrum to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
Goodrum was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay last Thursday, and he went 0-for-13 in four games with the Angels. He will now return to the minors, making room for Luis Rengifo's (illness) return from the injured list. It's possible Goodrum returns later this year if the Angels continue to struggle with infield depth, but he has proven to be an offensive liability throughout his seven-year career in MLB.
-
DJ LeMahieu NYY 3B
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Rehab assignment on tap Friday
11h agoLeMahieu (foot) is in line to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on Friday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
LeMahieu has already joined Somerset, but he will first go through a full workout Thursday and, assuming that goes off without a hitch, will begin playing in games Friday. The veteran infielder had to have his initial rehab assignment last month halted after just one inning due to ongoing issues with his right foot, but he's now ready to try again. Since he's missed so much time, the expectation is that LeMahieu will probably need at least a handful of rehab games before rejoining the Yankees' active roster.
-
Ildemaro Vargas WAS 3B
Nationals' Ildemaro Vargas: Steals third bag of season
12h agoVargas went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox.
Batting third against southpaw Garrett Crochet as Nats manager Dave Martinez desperately tried to spark his struggling offense, Vargas didn't make a big impact but was able to steal his third bag of the year, tying his career high. The 32-year-old utility player has been seeing semi-consistent starts in May, batting .294 (5-for-17) in nine games with three doubles, two runs and an RBI. He's already played 10-plus games at both second base and third base in 2024 while also seeing duty in left field (six games) and at shortstop (three games), giving him some fantasy value in deep NL-only formats.
-
Mark Vientos NYM 3B
Mets' Mark Vientos: Two hits in return to majors
12h agoVientos went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.
Called back up form Triple-A Syracuse earlier in the day, Vientos got the start at third base against lefty Ranger Suarez and made an immediate impact, driving home Francisco Lindor with a first-inning double. Vientos' time in the majors could last a little longer this time after he was up for about a week in late April, but the 24-year-old could still see limited action and is expected to serve mainly as a short-side platoon option at the hot corner behind Brett Baty. Through 31 games at Triple-A this year, Vientos is slashing .284/.376/.500 with six homers and 30 RBI.
-
Anthony Volpe NYY SS
Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Keeps raking
1h agoVolpe went 2-for-5 with a solo home run during Thursday's 5-0 win over the Twins.
Volpe extended his hit streak to nine games with a first-inning solo home run off Joe Ryan. During that stretch, Volpe has gone yard three times with 10 total RBI while logging multiple hits four times. After an up-and-down rookie campaign, Volpe owns a .273/.348/.432 slash line with six homers and nine stolen bases through 199 plate appearances.
-
J.P. Crawford SEA SS
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Timeline to return unclear
3h agoCrawford (oblique/hand) didn't travel with the team to Baltimore, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Crawford was hit by a pitch in the hand during a minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday and was still sore and swollen one day later. He doesn't have a clear timeline to return, and he managed only six plate appearances with Triple-A Tacoma prior to the new injury.
-
Trea Turner PHI SS
Phillies' Trea Turner: Goes through another workout
6h agoTurner (hamstring) went through a workout at Citizens Bank Park for the second straight day Thursday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Turner went through agility drills and took grounders on the field and also hit in the indoor batting cage. While the Phillies are not ready to say the shortstop is progressing from his left hamstring strain ahead of schedule, it sure seems like he might be. Turner is less than two weeks into a projected six-week timetable.
-
Bo Bichette TOR SS
Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: On base three times in loss
12h agoBichette went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles.
His two-run double in the third inning looked like it would be just enough offense to get the Jays the win, until Jordan Romano blew the save in the ninth. Bichette is finally catching fire at the plate, hitting safely in six straight games and batting .435 (10-for-23) over that stretch with a double, a homer, a steal, three runs and four RBI.
-
Thomas Saggese STL SS
Cardinals' Thomas Saggese: Slow start at Triple-A
12h agoSaggese is slashing .243/.325/.397 with five home runs and four steals in 36 games for Triple-A Memphis.
He is now slashing .232/.309/.381 with six home runs and five steals in 49 career games at Triple-A, dating back to last year, which is subpar for a player whose bat is going to have to carry the day. Saggese has played 27 games at shortstop, five games at second base and five games at third base. It's worth noting that Saggese is the sixth-youngest qualified hitter at Triple-A, and the five who are younger are Jackson Holliday, Junior Caminero, James Wood, Owen Caissie and Jonatan Clase, so patience is probably warranted in dynasty leagues.
-
Spencer Schwellenbach ATL SS
Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Sharp in Double-A debut
13h agoSchwellenbach threw six scoreless innings for Double-A Mississippi on Wednesday, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out nine.
It was an impressive Double-A debut for the 23-year-old right-hander, who earned his promotion by posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 34:9 K:BB over 32 innings for High-A Rome. Schwellenbach was a second-round pick in 2021 but didn't make his pro debut until last year due to Tommy John surgery, and he's still learning the nuances of pitching after being a two-way player in college. Atlanta will keep a close eye on his workload this year as he threw only 65 innings in 2023, but it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he climbs to Triple-A by the end of the campaign.
-
Jason Heyward LAD RF
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Return imminent
4h agoHeyward (back) rejoined the Dodgers on Thursday but was not activated from the injured list, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Heyward began a rehab assignment Tuesday and appeared in two games with Triple-A Oklahoma City, during which he went 0-for-6. Manager Dave Roberts said Heyward is ready to return soon, so it's likely he'll be activated at some point during the Dodgers' weekend series against the Reds.
-
Andy Pages LAD RF
Dodgers' Andy Pages: Day off Thursday
5h agoPages isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds.
Pages has struck out six times in his last nine at-bats, so the Dodgers will give him a chance to regroup Thursday. Teoscar Hernandez will shift to right field as a result, allowing Chris Taylor to pick up a start in left while batting seventh.
-
Stuart Fairchild CIN CF
Reds' Stuart Fairchild: Sits down Thursday
5h agoFairchild isn't in the Reds' lineup Thursday against the Dodgers.
Fairchild has gone 3-for-16 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored since the beginning of May. He will sit on the bench for the third game in a row Thursday while Conner Capel, Will Benson and Jake Fraley man the outfield.
-
Jonny DeLuca TB CF
Rays' Jonny DeLuca: Out of lineup again Thursday
6h agoDeLuca is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Boston.
It marks the third time in four games that DeLuca will be on the bench. This is after he had started the previous nine contests in a row. The recent returns of Josh Lowe and Jonathan Aranda have impacted DeLuca's playing time, and the Rays also could be re-committing to Jose Siri in handing him five starts across the last six tilts.
-
Tyler Nevin OAK RF
Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Absent from lineup
7h agoNevin is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Houston.
Nevin's production has cratered in May (3-for-39) and with that his playing time has also slipped. He's now started just half of the Athletics' last 10 games, and the last time he was in the lineup versus a right-hander he was down in the No. 8 spot.
-
Brandon Nimmo NYM LF
Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Scratched from lineup
7h agoNimmo was scratched from the Mets' lineup prior to Thursday's game against the Phillies due to a stomach illness, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Nimmo wasn't feeling well heading into Thursday's contest, so the Mets will give him the day off to recover. In the meantime, DJ Stewart will take Nimmo's place in left field and bat fifth, moving Tyrone Taylor into the leadoff spot.
-
Taijuan Walker PHI SP
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: No broken bones
15m agoX-rays came back negative on Walker's left foot after he was forced to exit Thursday's start against the Mets in the fourth inning, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Walker was hit by a line drive in the fourth inning and limped off the mound. The initial diagnosis was a bruise, and the negative X-rays are also a good sign. Even so, the Phillies are unsure if he will be able to take his next turn through the rotation.
-
Jose Quintana NYM SP
Mets' Jose Quintana: Rebounds in no-decision
40m agoQuintana didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's extra-innings win over the Phillies, allowing two runs on four hits and no walls over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.
After surrendering 12 earned runs across his previous two starts, Quintana delivered a solid outing against Philadelphia. He didn't allow an extra-base hit during the start and both the runs against him came after Quintana was pulled. He allowed J.T. Realmuto and Bryce Harper to reach on consecutive singles before being replaced by Reed Garrett, who surrendered an RBI single and a sac fly immediately after. In nine starts, Quintana owns a 5.21 ERA with a 32:18 K:BB through 46.2 innings.
-
Joe Ryan MIN SP
Twins' Joe Ryan: Tagged up by Yankees
1h agoRyan (2-3) took the loss Thursday against the Yankees, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk during 5.1 innings. He struck out five.
Ryan surrendered more than three earned runs for the first time all year, as the Yankees matched that total in the first inning alone. The right-hander's struggles resulted in a shortened outing, failing to complete six frames for the first time since April 19. Ryan owns a 3.86 ERA and a 28:4 K:BB in 30.1 innings over his last five starts. He's lined up to face the Nationals in Washington on Tuesday.
-
Clarke Schmidt NYY SP
Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Twirls eight scoreless
1h agoSchmidt (5-1) earned the win Thursday against Minnesota, allowing three hits and no walks during eight scoreless innings. He struck out eight.
Schmidt hasn't allowed a run in 15.2 consecutive innings, dating back to his May 4 start against Detroit. The 28-year-old was utterly dominant Thursday, setting a season high in punchouts while tying his season low in hits allowed. Schmidt's well on his way to a career year -- owning a 2.49 ERA in 50.2 innings -- as a back-end starter in one of baseball's best rotations. He'll look to extend his scoreless inning streak in a projected start Tuesday against Seattle.
-
Taijuan Walker PHI SP
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Diagnosed with bruise
3h agoWalker was diagnosed with a left foot bruise after exiting Thursday's start, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Walker exited after being struck by a line drive and limped off the field. The extent of the damage is not yet known, but he is currently undergoing imaging which should clarify his outlook.
-
Taijuan Walker PHI SP
Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Early exit from Thursday's start
3h agoWalker exited Thursday's start against the Mets after being struck in the left foot by a line drive, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Walker had completed 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out only one. It's unclear if the injury will affect his ability to take his next turn through the rotation, but he'll likely undergo imaging on either Thursday night or Friday.
-
Erasmo Ramirez TB RP
Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Picks up unconventional save
4m agoRamirez recorded the final out in Thursday's win over Boston to earn the save.
Jason Adam began the ninth inning and was in line to earn the save, but he was forced to leave the game after the Rays exceeded the limit for mound visits. Ramirez then entered the contest to record the final out with runners on first and third. He hasn't worked many high-leverage situations this season and isn't likely to see many moving forward given the depth of Tampa Bay's bullpen.
-
Jose Alvarado PHI RP
-
Eduardo Salazar LAD RP
Dodgers' Eduardo Salazar: Back in minors
4h agoThe Dodgers optioned Salazar to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Salazar was recalled from Triple-A and made his season debut Wednesday, allowing one unearned run while striking out three batters and walking two across two innings. He'll now return to the minors in favor of Nick Ramirez, who was recalled in a corresponding move.
-
Nick Ramirez LAD RP
Dodgers' Nick Ramirez: Brought back up
4h agoThe Dodgers recalled Ramirez from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Ramirez has allowed just one run across seven big-league innings this season, and he has thrown 5.2 shutout frames in Triple-A since being sent down in late April. The 34-year-old southpaw will likely serve in middle relief while with the Dodgers, and Eduardo Salazar will head back to Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.
-
Brock Burke TEX RP
Rangers' Brock Burke: Beginning rehab assignment
6h agoBurke (hand) will begin a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Thursday.
Burke landed on the injured list April 13 after breaking his right (non-throwing) hand, and he'll now begin working his way back in rookie ball. The 27-year-old southpaw isn't eligible to return from the IL until June 12, so he will have plenty of time to ease his way back before rejoining the Rangers' bullpen.
-
Andrew McCutchen PIT DH
Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Takes seat Thursday
6h agoMcCutchen isn't in the Pirates' lineup Thursday versus the Cubs.
McCutchen gets to have some rest after going 8-for-20 in the past 5 games. The 37-year-old went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 10-2 loss to Milwaukee. Bryan Reynolds has the start as the designated hitter and Edward Olivares enters the lineup as the right fielder, batting cleanup.
-
Giancarlo Stanton NYY DH
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Hitting bench in series finale
12h agoStanton is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins.
Stanton will get a breather for the day game after a night game, ceding his spot in the lineup to Trent Grisham, who will man center field while Aaron Judge slots into Stanton's usual role at designated hitter. After making 33 starts in the corner outfield in 2023, Stanton has been deployed exclusively at DH through the first quarter of the 2024 season. Given Stanton's lengthy injury history, the Yankees will likely look to keep him in a non-defensive role so long as the likes of Judge, Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo all maintain health.
-
Bryan De La Cruz MIA DH
Marlins' Bryan De La Cruz: Homers in win

Rangers' Travis Jankowski: Opportunity drying up
14h agoJankowski started at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-0 win over Cleveland.
Jankowski made his third consecutive start and fourth in the last five games, but his opportunities may be coming to close. Evan Carter (lower back stiffness) is expected to return to the lineup Friday against the Angels, which is expected to move Jankowski back to a bench role. Additionally, the Angels' projected starter Friday is lefty Tyler Anderson, which would likely preclude Jankowski from making a fourth straight start.
